Brunei introduced its Supplementary Contributory Pension (SPC) scheme in 2009 which, when coupled with the existing TAP, aims to provide pensioners with a continued source of income upon reaching their retirement age. Many employers and employees lacked fundamental knowledge about the scheme at the time so briefings such as these were held for private and government entities on a daily basis.

$140,000 proposed for HM's 63rd birthday
Bruneian's love their Sultan and they show it off every year by celebrating the monarch's birthday with extravagance. The following article was published on January 14, 2009 and it gives us a glimpse of how much money goes into celebrating the sultan's birthday every year. Bear in mind that this was only the budget for the Temburong District which is home to just 10,000 or 2.5 percent of the sultanate's 400,000 population.
